Effective Dental Care Tips to Keep in Mind - Daily Health Care

Even in the past, men have always known the importance of keeping their teeth clean and healthy. From the early attempts of men to clean their teeth using their finger, twigs, and even salt, to more modern use of toothbrush, toothpaste, and whitening trays, the importance of health, white teeth has not been lost. Dental care, however, is more than just brushing one?s teeth.

Not many people might be aware of it but brushing is not something that you only do after eating. In truth, brushing is something that you have to do upon waking up. This is because there would have already be a lot of accumulated germs and plaque around your teeth and within the oral cavity that could have been present overnight. This is aside from the fact that saliva, which is important in controlling plaque, tends to dry up while a person sleeps.

Brushing is not the be-all, end-all when it comes to keeping one?s teeth healthy. In order to ensure that there are no food particles stuck between teeth, most dental professionals like Dr. Domenick Coletti also recommend regular flossing in order to ensure that there are no food particles left behind in between teeth. Dental flossing has also been proven to be one of the best methods by which you can make sure that there is no plaque buildup around the teeth as the floss can be used to take out particles caught between the gum line and the teeth. An alternative to flossing would be to make use of water jets or oral irrigators in order to flush out the minute particles caught in between.

Dr. Domenick Coletti also recommends the use of chewing gums in order to stimulate the production of saliva. The saliva is the mouth?s very own method for making sure that the bacteria within the oral cavity are kept at bay. In cases where this is not enough, most dental professionals also recommend brushing the tongue to keep one from having bad breath. Aside from brushing the tongue, one can also make use of a good mouthwash.

Staying away from food and beverages that can cause teeth staining is also highly recommended by dental professionals. Some of the most popular food that cause staining include those that have thick sauces, certain nuts and berries, and such drinks as red wine, carbonated drinks, coffee, and tea. Taking in amoxicillin as well as certain other antibiotics have also been known to cause intrinsic staining of the teeth.
