AFCEA DC Announces New Board Of Directors For 2012-2013

WASHINGTON, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --?The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's DC Chapter (AFCEA DC), a non-profit association focused on promoting higher education in the hard sciences, mathematics, computer technology, and engineering, today announced its newly elected Board of Directors for the 2012-2013 season.? Each member will have voting privileges and will provide strategic direction to drive contributions to the AFCEA DC scholarship program.?

"AFCEA DC is focused on ensuring that our events remain at the highest caliber and continue to provide our members with valuable educational and networking opportunities," said AFCEA DC President Brian Roach.? "We rely on our Board of Directors to provide strategic direction as well as actively engage in these events.? The incoming class consists of executives from both large and small businesses with a wide-range of Department of Defense (DoD) and Information Technology (IT) experience.? We welcome them to the AFCEA DC Board."

As part of their responsibilities, the new members of the Board of Directors will focus on continuing AFCEA DC's successful events including the monthly luncheon series, seasonal executive-level events, golf tournament, cyber, mobile, emerging technology working groups and technical symposiums as well as the scholarship program.? The following provides the board position, duties, and a brief background on each new Board member:

Brian Roach, President AFCEA DC Chapter (Juniper Networks)

Mr. Roach is Vice President, Federal, for Juniper Networks Inc., the leader in high-performance networking.? Mr. Roach joined Juniper's Federal business unit in Herndon, Virginia, in July 2009, after serving for ten years at the Microsoft Corporation, where he was General Manager of product sales for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

AFCEA DC Executive Committee:

Bill O'Neill, EVP (HP)
Major Programs ? Golf (USO) Spring Awards, Cyber Symposia, Emerging Tech Symposia, Mobile Symposia, Winter Gala.

Mr. O'Neill is a seasoned executive in the federal market with nearly 30 years of service, leadership, and innovation.? He has a long and successful track record of managing major accounts in the defense, civilian, and secure business areas, as well as leading teams that provide end-to-end IT telecommunications solutions.

Lisa Newell, SVP (Business Growth Associates, Inc.)
Business Operations ? Treasurer, finance, ethics, chapter support contractor, secretary.

Ms. Newell has over 27 years of experience in the federal sector, receiving numerous awards for capturing the largest contracts for some of the most prominent companies in the world.? Her responsibilities have included operations and business development, service integration, solutions development, and information security.

Adam Owings, VP (Next Tier Concepts)

Mr. Owings has a demonstrated record of success leading and managing high-priority projects in national defense, federal law enforcement, and information technology. At Next Tier Concepts, he oversees development of complex custom software solutions for customers in the defense, federal, and commercial business areas.

Barbara Ellen Bridges, VP (Par Excellence)
Communications ? Marketing & Publicity, Chapter communications, CIO/IT

Ms. Bridges currently is the President and Founder of PAR Excellence, a strategic and tactical business development firm, focused on assisting small and disadvantaged companies in navigating the Government technology marketplace.? With her over 20 years of working with IT companies, she provides great insight and brings that experience and network to her clients.

Benita Bottom, VP (Business InfoStrategies)
Luncheon / Breakfast programs ? Corporate table holders

Ms. Bottom is the President of Business InfoStrategies.?? As an active member of AFCEA and other key industry groups, she has over twenty years experience positioning new technologies and innovative solutions including management services within the Federal, Homeland Security and Defense markets.

Jerry Harrison, VP (SRI International)

MG(R) Jerry Harrison spent his Army career in acquisition and retired from the Army as Chief of Legislative Liaison.? He has over 16 years in industry in business development with Motorola, General Dynamics and now as the Vice President for Government Business Development for SRI International.? Tim Solms, Treasurer (Microsoft)

Tim Solms is the General Manager for the Microsoft Department of Defense business.? Prior to Microsoft, Tim was at VMware, where he was responsible for sales and management of the Department of Defense business, which included U.S. Defense and NATO. Prior to VMware, Tim was at Dell in their Federal business practice where he managed multiple teams and was responsible for sales and solutions in the Intelligence and Homeland Security arena and the combined Federal OCONUS, DOD Healthcare, and Joint/Defense Agencies. Prior to joining Dell, Tim enjoyed a career in the United States Army as an attack aviator serving in command and staff positions in the United States and overseas.

Lon Lane, Secretary (AvePoint)

Mr. Lon Lane is an enterprise account executive at AvePoint Public Sector with a focus on delivering solutions to the United States Air Force, Component Commands, and the Federal System Integrator community. He has been working in IT for 5 years with an emphasis on business development and solutions development. He has served as the President and Co-Chair of the DC Young AFCEANS for the past two and a half years.

She supports the Defense market and her focus areas are: Software Development, Program Management and Cyber Security. Ms. Combeau is a graduate of: the Sorbonne University, Paris, France, with a BS degree in Economics; and a MS degree in International Economics.

In addition to its executive committee, the Board comprises two Advisors and 27 Directors. The Directors serve staggered three-year terms in three classes.
